DRUG & ALCOHOL AWARENESS The consequences of substance abuse to individuals, their families and to the wider community are almost incalculable - violence within the family and in the community, crime, broken homes, broken hearts, shattered dreams. Many of us have been fortunate enough to avoid these problems but there are many who suffer in silence, not understanding the problem or knowing where to turn to for help. The formation of the group coincided with the death of a young boy form solvent abuse. Its purpose is to provide a support and a resource within the community that can act as a first step in dealing with the issue. Since
its inception NWCA on Drugs and Alcohol:
· Has developed relationships with groups such as AA, Al Anon, Northlands, OA and the Addiction Unit. · Delivers the DQLA (Drugs Questions Local Answers) course. · Organised a successful poster competition for schools in the North West (Derry and Donegal), and · Hosted a visit by a group of recovering heroin users from Dublin.
